Well, here we are – just over a year since we began the Fidra Blog as a way of chatting with our readers and telling people what we doing.  We didn’t actually think that anyone except my mum and a few friends would read it.  In fact we weren’t completely sure whether there was much point and although I read blogs I didn’t really understand how it worked, but everyone said we should have one….

A year on, the stats show that there are an awful lot of people who come here to read my witterings from the frontline of a tiny publishing house – heaven knows why.  But what’s been really interesting is that the Fidra Blog has enabled us to move beyond talking to our own circle to a much wider audience – bloggers such as DoveGreyReader, Cornflower, Scott Pack and Susan Hill (links all over there on the right) have championed our cause and it’s always good to see a new visitor drop by.  We’ve acquired a few new customers and I’ve made friends with a couple of other Edinburgh bloggers.  On the latter point, it’s particularly nice to be able to chat about blogging to other bloggers as it isn’t as mainstream an activity as one might sometimes think – for a long time my mother thought that a blog was like a chatroom and therefore Highly Dubious and no doubt full of psychopaths!

But I do love my little blog and it’s nice sometimes to be able to jump up and down shouting ‘Ooo-eee!  Over here!’ when you’ve something exciting to talk about like a new author.  Or even just a picture of the best ice-cream in the world or our new dog.  So thank you to everyone who’s stopped by in the last year and I promise to try and make it more interesting in its second year!

Happy Birthday Vanessa! And many happy returns. I enjoy the Fidra Blog so much and look forwards to your postings. Writing as a fellow Edinburgh blogger, I feel exactly the same about the opportunity to meet and swap thoughts on the blogosphere.

ps – my mother thought the same about blogging, though now she’s getting more comfortable with the concept and has managed to get on-line. Mixed consequences so far: she has taken grave exception to a throw-away comment I made about her teeth in a recent posting. You just can’t win!

Happy birthday from another Edinburgh blogger!
I’m a librarian too (although not in a public library), so it’s nice to see a small publisher that’s so active as well!

A very belated happy birthday – and at least the blog won’t be asking to borrow the car before you know it!
