Amazed by my own inefficiency
October 22nd, 2007 by Vanessa
People who know me know that I am not good at being patient. I try, I really do, but generally when I want something done I want it done NOW! This is something I’m saying a lot at the moment given that the shop opens on the 10th November – that’s now less than three weeks – and there’s a lot to be done by joiners, decorators, electricians etc before we even think about getting bookshelves and books in. Give me about ten days and my cries of ‘do it NOW’ might even be accompanied by a stamping of the foot.
However, the rush of getting the shop organised over the last month or two – bearing in mind that we weren’t even seriously looking for shop premises – has meant that some things have slipped back. The last two books for this year will be out pretty much as planned but our other big project – the competition to find a new novel for Fidra to publish – has run into difficulties.
We’ve been really lucky in that we’ve had absolutely masses of entries – well over a hundred – but it’s taking a long time to whittle them down to a shortlist, especially if I want to take time to read them properly rather than just skim the synopsis and the covering letter/email.
So whilst it feels a bit rich to be asking people to bear with me when I’m so impatient, I hope that all the people who entered our competition can understand why things aren’t going quite to plan. We will get through all the entries as soon as possible but if you haven’t heard from us yet, it isn’t that we’ve abandoned you, just that we haven’t read your submission yet.
If anyone has any more queries, do email me. And sorry.
Good luck with getting the shop ready. It’s going to be lovely. I feel it in my bones.
I can’t believe i still haven’t got a mention despite giving up two of my weekends!
You haven’t given up your weekends yet Darling Brother! But when you do I promise we’ll have a pic of you on here – are you sure you don’t want to wear the Maisy Mouse costume?
Hands off that Maisy costume its mine.
