Neil GaimanYes, Neil fans, you read that correctly.  We’ve already raved about how much we love The Graveyard Book (out on Hallowe’en) and we are now delighted to tell you that on the 28th October Neil Gaiman will be here (well, not actually here; about 100 yards up the road as we don’t have enough space) to read from The Graveyard Book, take part in a question and answer session where you can ask him to solve the conundrums that you’ve been pondering about his work and then to sign books for everyone.

We’re delighted about this.  His UK tour is going to be quite small – Dublin (which I know isn’t actually part of the UK), Edinburgh, Manchester and London - but he’s coming to a li’l old independent bookshop for the Edinburgh gig.  It’s great to see that the big publishing houses are supporting us indies and realising that we can run an event just as well as those nasty old chains!

To practicalities:  we are sure that there’s going to be huge demand for tickets and so we’ve booked the Church Hill Theatre a mere hop, skip and a jump up the road from the bookshop.  It’s lovely, there’s room for over three hundred people and there’s a cafe-bar to sustain you while you’re waiting patiently in that signing queue to meet Neil and have him sign your book(s).  I’ll warn you now – that’s going to be a long queue.  If you absolutely won’t be able to wait then let us know and we’ll find a way of getting your signed copy to you, but it will be fun and you can chat to people, or even slope off to the pub and pop back when the queue’s a bit shorter.

Tickets are £5 with £5 off a copy of The Graveyard Book, which isn’t actually published until the 31st so you’ll have a couple of days headstart on your friends who miss out on this event and you’ll get to meet the very lovely Neil in person and have him sign your book.  Or books – we won’t stop you if you want to buy several.

You can pick your tickets up by calling into The Children’s Bookshop or reserve them by phone or email and send a cheque and we’ll post them out.  If you can’t make it to the event but you’d still like a signed copy, we may be able to help – drop in or email and we’ll see what we can do.

Oh, and we thought that as it’s almost Hallowe’en, you might like to come in fancy dress – there’s a prize for the person who’s made the most effort!

I really would like to come, but would then have to fly over from the south. I hoping that it’ll work out…
