Happy Birthday GNU!

No, not the wildebeest (although I’m sure a few of them are celebrating birthdays too if they didn’t encounter the local pride of lions), but GNU the computer operating system composed of entirely free software and shared within the Open Source community.
As part of their 25th Birthday celebrations, they’ve got Stephen Fry to record a special video message. Fry gives a brief history of GNU’s Not Unix (GNU) beginnings, starting with Richard Stallman’s desire to create an operating system that would be in the hands of the community rather than a proprietary software firm, which in turn led to the Linux operating systems.
So if you’re fed up with the glitches, bugs and annoyances (not to mention the price) that often comes with commercial operating systems and software, join us IT hippies…
