Neil Gaiman update
October 20th, 2008 by Vanessa
Tickets for Neil’s event on the 28th October are selling briskly, so if you’ve been faffing around and would like to come do book soon as we don’t want to disappoint you. You can order on-line by following the link from the events page, ring us to reserve and then send us a cheque or call into the shop. Yesterday’s Scotland on Sunday contained a review of The Graveyard Book and I expect that that will generate some interest so I think that next Tuesday’s event will probably be a sell-out.
Those of you coming to the event might like to read the guidelines for signees that Neil wrote a few years back (you’ll need to scroll down a bit). As well as being useful in terms of reminding people that signing queues are long and that patience is needed and that it’s good if you can remember how to spell your name, it also points out that if everyone brings their entire collection of Sandman then it’s going to mean that the people at the back are waiting for a very long time. Consequently, we think one item plus whatever books you buy from us on the evening is fair*. If you have every Sandman and you want Neil to sign it then you’re going to have to wait til the end and hope that the theatre people aren’t trying to kick us out and that Neil isn’t about to faint or get grumpy unless someone gives him a sandwich. The positive side of having the signing at the Church Hill Theatre is that they have a bar so at least there’s liquid sustenance on offer while you’re waiting.
* We will have lots of Neil’s other titles as well as The Graveyard Book so you could probably sort out your entire family’s Christmas presents in one fell swoop should you wish – your Granny might love a signed copy of The Dangerous Alphabet…

I would so love to be able to come for Neil Gaiman’s visit. I read Stardust last year and it was heaven, just so very exactly what I wanted to read at the time, so beautiful. Have been a fan of Neverwhere, though i have no television, and I love Mirrormask.
Please pass on to Neil my admiration and thanks for his wonderful words and I hope one day that we might meet.Would love to put pictures to some of his words.
While I am here I would just like to pass on my apologies for not being with you at my own book launch. I have just found out about it as my publishers sent me press clippings for Singing to the Sun. Such a shame they didn’t feel like letting me know before that you were doing a book launch. I fear I would have been unable to come anyway as I was tied up painting dragons at the time, and we all know how tricky dragons can be. Anyway, given that The SnowLeopard had just won the Highland Book Awards for best picture book I am doubley sorry. I so want to come and travel through Scotland.
So, please do pass on my best wishes to the remarkable Mr Gaiman, and love to Viv next time she is with you. Best wishes from Wales where today it is cold and wet and wintry.
Must go, dragons are all finished but raven and polar bear waiting.
