Long-time readers might remember that two years ago I took part in the Moonwalk in Edinburgh.  Lots of you sponsored me and I raised hundreds of pounds (for which thanks again) for the Walk the Walk charity which fundraises for breast cancer care and research.  Not so successful was the fact that I slipped on some mud not far from the start and tore the ligaments in my ankle.  I managed to hobble round Arthur’s Seat but by the time we got to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood I could barely put my foot to the ground and was having to stop every 50 yards or so to loosen my trainer because my ankle was swelling so much.  I gave up then and was driven back to the big pink tent on the Meadows to get my ankle strapped up and have a bit of a blub because I felt I’d let people down and was frustrated that I couldn’t finish.

Well, this year I decided to have another go and fellow Edinburgh blogger and dear friend Mother-at-Large and I are going to have our first training walk this evening.  We will be doing 13.1 miles on the night of the 20th/21st June but we’re starting with a more gentle 3 miles or so tonight.  Keep your fingers crossed that my ankle holds out – it will be well strapped up!

It’s especially important for me to complete the walk this year as three friends have been diagnosed with this dreadful disease since my last attempt and rest assured that nearer the time I will be leaning on all of you to donate a couple of pounds or so!  In the meantime, if anyone fancies joining us and 12,000 other women (and a few men) on the night to trudge 13 miles around Edinburgh I believe that there are still places available

    Hi,

No Jane, Teaga won’t be coming with although I’m sure she would love to dress in pink and join in!

Dark Puss – thanks – we’re going to set up a sponsorship page at JustGiving.com nearer the time and we’ll certainly let everyone know about it!

Mum – he’s thinking about it. Bit worried about having to pound the streets in a decorated pink bra! He’ll probably volunteer as a marshall or something if not.

Trying to persuade Matthew as I am sure that an officer and a gentleman would be brave enough !!! not sure if the Navy is into pink bras though …..

Yeah I remember you stopping cause of your ankle and I walked the rest on my own! I’m trying to get Matthew to do it as well. He would love all the attention! And the pink bras!
